Phones have become the main way people pay. India now runs more than 800 million UPI payments a day, Brazil reaches 86% of its adults through Pix, Japan crossed 58% cashless spending in a single year, and in Germany cards and phones overtook cash for the first time since records began. Mobile payments have moved from a nice extra to the default checkout in most large economies.
I put this page together because most mobile payment statistics online are recycled figures from 2021 and 2022. Every number here comes from data released in 2025 and 2026: central bank reports, payment network results, earnings filings, regulator data and large consumer surveys. Where two datasets disagree, I picked the most recent official figure.
You get more than 300 mobile payment stats grouped by theme: the global market, startups and fintech funding, eight countries (USA, UK, India, China, Brazil, Indonesia, Germany and Japan), wallets and apps, contactless and QR codes, mobile money, fraud, generations, checkout, BNPL and the new wave of AI agent and stablecoin payments.
I also ran my own calculations on the raw data, such as average ticket sizes for UPI, Pix and QRIS and transactions per second for the biggest networks. Those numbers appear in the Editor Picks and in a separate section, so you get figures you will find on this page first.

What These Mobile Payment Statistics Mean
Three patterns run through the data. First, public rails win at scale: UPI, Pix and QRIS run on low fees and QR codes, and each one grew faster than any private wallet in 2025. Second, cards are moving into phones: in the US and UK, wallets mostly carry a debit or credit card, so tap to pay grows while card networks keep the economics. Third, fraud is shifting toward the payments people approve themselves, which pushes passkeys, tokens and scam warnings into every mobile checkout.
For merchants and startups, the takeaway is practical. Offer the local wallet or QR rail of every market you sell in, add Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal at checkout, and prepare your product data for AI shopping agents.
