Contentpen started as an AI blog writer. On October 5, 2026 it relaunched as Contentpen 2.0, and the pitch is now much bigger: one tool that researches keywords, writes the article, scores it for Google and for AI answer engines, publishes it to your site and then tracks whether ChatGPT, Gemini and five other engines mention your brand.
That is a lot of jobs for a tool that starts at $39 a month. This review goes through what each part does, where the plan limits bite, what an article really costs on each tier and who should buy it.

The Short Verdict
Contentpen is a good buy for small teams, solo site owners and agencies that publish blog content every week and want AI visibility data without paying for a separate tracker. The Growth plan is the one that makes sense for most buyers. The Starter plan is fine for writing and too thin for serious AI tracking. If you need backlink tools, deep rank tracking or large-scale prompt monitoring, you will still need other software next to it.

What Is Contentpen?
Contentpen is a web-based content platform from the company behind ContentStudio, the social media management tool. Chief executive Waqar Azeem summed up the reasoning behind version 2.0 this way: “Ranking on Google is no longer the whole job. Buyers now ask ChatGPT and Gemini which product to choose.”
The product is built on that idea. Traditional SEO gets a page ranked. Answer engine optimization, or AEO, gets a page quoted inside an AI answer. The two overlap heavily but are not the same thing, as our comparison of GEO and SEO explains. Contentpen scores each article for both and reports on both afterwards.
What Changed in Contentpen 2.0
- One product, one price. SEO writing and AEO tracking used to be sold separately. They are now a single subscription.
- Seven AI engines. Visibility tracking covers ChatGPT, Google AI, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok and Claude.
- A public API. Available on every plan, with webhooks, so developers can trigger articles from their own systems.
- A redesigned interface. The dashboard was rebuilt around the full workflow instead of the editor alone.
- A new plan ladder. Starter, Growth, Scale and Agency replace the older three-tier pricing, with Enterprise on request.
Key Features, One by One
Keyword Research and Topic Clusters
You enter a seed topic and Contentpen returns keywords grouped into clusters, with a SERP and content gap analysis for each. It is enough to plan a month of posts without leaving the tool. It does not replace a full research suite for difficult niches. If you need click data, historical trends or competitor keyword gaps at depth, the dedicated keyword research tools still go further.
The AI Writer
Articles can run up to 5,000 words in more than 50 languages. The writer reads the current search results for the keyword before drafting, follows a brand voice you define, and can generate up to 100 articles in bulk from a CSV file. As with every AI writer, the draft is a starting point. First-hand experience, original data and opinions still have to come from you, and those are the things both Google and AI engines reward.
SEO Score and AEO Score
This is the feature that separates Contentpen from most AI writers. Each draft gets two live scores. The SEO score checks the familiar on-page items: keyword use, headings, length, links and readability. The AEO score checks whether the piece is easy for an AI engine to quote, with direct answers near the top, clear question-style headings and self-contained passages. If the idea is new to you, our primer on generative engine optimization covers why those traits matter. Most content optimization tools still stop at the first score.
Automatic Internal and External Links
Contentpen scans your site and inserts internal links into each new draft, along with external links to sources. This saves real time on larger sites where nobody remembers every old post. Check the anchors before publishing, because automated linking tends to favour exact-match phrases. Sites with thousands of pages may still want one of the specialist AI internal linking tools for retrofitting links into older content.
Publishing and Scheduling
Finished articles go straight to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Wix, Ghost or EmDash as drafts or live posts, on a calendar you control. Draft links can be shared with a client or editor who has no Contentpen account. Because the tool comes from ContentStudio, a published post can also be pushed to social channels through that product.
Autopilot
Autopilot is available from the Growth plan upward. You give it a site and a topic area, and it finds keywords, writes, links, adds images and publishes on a schedule without further input. It is the headline feature and the one to treat with most care. Running it with publishing set to draft, and reviewing each piece before it goes live, gets the time saving without handing your site’s reputation to a script.
SEO Opportunities and Content Refresh
With Google Search Console connected, Contentpen flags pages that are slipping and keywords where you sit just off page one, then offers to refresh the article. That makes it useful for existing sites and not only for new content. The reasoning behind refreshing versus removing old posts is covered in our guide to content pruning and content decay.
AI Visibility Tracking
You enter prompts, meaning the questions a buyer might ask an AI assistant, and Contentpen checks whether your brand appears in the answers. How much you get depends heavily on the plan, as the next section shows. On Agency it is a full seven-engine tracker. On Starter it is a taster. Teams whose main need is prompt monitoring at volume will find more depth in standalone AI visibility tracking tools.
Contentpen Pricing
Prices below are per month. Annual billing is 20% cheaper than paying monthly.
| Plan | Annual Billing | Monthly Billing | Articles | AI Images | Workspaces | Team Seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $39 | $49 | 12 | 75 | 1 | 1 |
| Growth | $79 | $99 | 40 | 250 | 3 | 5 |
| Scale | $199 | $249 | 75 | 500 | 5 | 10 |
| Agency | $359 | $449 | 150 | 1,000 | 10 | Unlimited |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | 150+ | Custom | Custom | Custom, with SAML single sign-on |
AI Visibility Limits by Plan
| Plan | Tracked Prompts | AI Engines | Refresh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 25 | 2 of 7 | Monthly |
| Growth | 75 | 4 of 7 | Weekly |
| Scale | 150 | 5 of 7 | Weekly |
| Agency | 300 | 7 of 7 | Weekly |
These limits are the fine print that matters most. Starter tracks 25 prompts on two engines and refreshes once a month. That tells you whether you show up at all, and little more. Weekly data on four engines starts at Growth.
What One Article Really Costs
Dividing each plan’s price by its article allowance gives a clearer picture than the headline prices do.
| Plan | Cost per Article, Annual | Cost per Article, Monthly |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $3.25 | $4.08 |
| Growth | $1.98 | $2.48 |
| Scale | $2.65 | $3.32 |
| Agency | $2.39 | $2.99 |
Growth is the cheapest plan per article at $1.98. Scale gives you fewer than twice the articles of Growth for two and a half times the price, so each article costs more. What Scale buys is ten seats, five workspaces and a fifth AI engine. If you are a single site owner who simply wants more articles, Scale is poor value and Growth is the ceiling worth paying for. Agencies get the per-article price back down on the Agency plan, along with unlimited seats and all seven engines.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Research, writing, scoring, publishing and tracking in one subscription
- An AEO score beside the SEO score on every draft
- AI visibility tracking included, where rivals charge for it separately
- Direct publishing to six content management systems
- Public API and webhooks on every plan, including Starter
- Search Console data used to find pages worth refreshing
- Per-article cost under $2 on the Growth plan
Cons
- No free plan, and the trial asks for a credit card
- Starter tracks only two AI engines, once a month
- Autopilot is locked to Growth and above
- No backlink analysis or link building features
- Rank tracking relies on Search Console data alone
- Scale costs more per article than Growth
- The dashboard takes a session or two to learn
- Version 2.0 is new, so independent user reviews are still few
Who Should Use Contentpen
| You Are | Verdict | Plan to Pick |
|---|---|---|
| A solo blogger or niche site owner | Good fit if you publish weekly | Starter, moving to Growth for Autopilot |
| A small business with one site | Strong fit | Growth |
| An in-house content team of five to ten | Good fit | Scale, for the seats |
| An agency with several clients | Strong fit | Agency |
| An enterprise SEO team | Partial fit, as one tool among several | Enterprise |
| A link builder or technical SEO | Poor fit | None |
What Contentpen Replaces and What It Does Not
| Job | Covered by Contentpen | Still Needs Another Tool |
|---|---|---|
| Keyword ideas and clustering | Yes | Only for deep competitor research |
| Drafting articles | Yes | No |
| On-page SEO scoring | Yes | No |
| AEO scoring | Yes | No |
| Publishing to the CMS | Yes | No |
| AI visibility tracking | Yes, within plan limits | For large prompt sets on lower plans |
| Backlink analysis | No | Yes |
| Technical site audits | No | Yes |
| Daily rank tracking | No | Yes |
For a small site, that first group of six jobs often means four separate subscriptions. Replacing them with one is where the real saving sits.
Is Contentpen Worth It?
Yes, for the right buyer. If you already publish regularly and the question you keep hearing is whether your brand shows up in ChatGPT, Contentpen answers it without a second tool. The Growth plan at $79 a month on annual billing is the sweet spot: 40 articles, Autopilot, weekly tracking on four engines and five seats.
It is a weaker choice if you publish two posts a month, since 12 articles on Starter will go unused, or if your SEO work is mostly technical or link-led. And whichever plan you choose, the tool produces drafts. The sites that win with it will be the ones that add their own knowledge before pressing publish.
