The best day to post on Instagram in India is Tuesday. . We compiled four large timing studies and read their hours in Indian time. Then we counted how often each hour of the week made a study’s best list. Tuesday 3 PM and Tuesday 5 PM were the only slots that three of the four studies share.
Also, early-week afternoons and evenings win across the board. Monday 6 PM to 9 PM, Wednesday at noon and Wednesday 5 PM to 7 PM each appear in two studies. Saturday is the weakest day in our grid. So an account that posts three times a week should pick Monday evening, Tuesday late afternoon and Wednesday noon.

Why Global Study Times Already Work in IST
Most people expect a time zone trick here. In fact, the big studies already do the work. Sprout Social, Buffer, Hootsuite and Later all report times in the audience’s own local clock. That means a “Tuesday 3 PM” result points to 3 PM wherever the followers live. For followers in India, that is 3 PM IST.
India also runs on a single time zone. IST is UTC plus 5 hours 30 minutes, and India does not use daylight saving time. As a result, followers in Guwahati and Ahmedabad see the same clock. As a result, one schedule covers the whole country, while a US brand must juggle several zones.
However, conversion still matters in two cases. First, some studies publish fixed-zone results, such as Hootsuite’s UTC row. Second, many Indian brands sell to NRI followers in the US, the UK or the Gulf. We converted both cases for NRI audiences, with tables, in a later section.
The audience is large enough to plan for with care. Instagram’s ad reach in India stands at 481 million people, which is 32.8% of the population. Also, men make up 69.7% of the adult ad audience, and women make up 29.9%.
Six Instagram Timing Studies Read in Indian Time
We opened six recent studies and copied every best window they publish. Then we read each local time as IST. The table shows what each study covers and which clock it uses.
| Study | Published | Data behind it | Clock used | Best windows for an Indian audience (IST) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sprout Social | Updated March 2026 | Nearly 2 billion engagements, about 307,000 profiles, three months ending Feb 27, 2026 | Audience local time | Mon 2 PM to 4 PM; Tue 1 PM to 7 PM; Wed 12 PM to 9 PM; Thu 12 PM to 2 PM |
| Buffer | Sep 23, 2026 | 9.6 million Instagram posts over two years, starting January 2024 | Normalized local time | Thu 9 AM; Wed 12 PM; Wed 6 PM |
| Hootsuite | Jul 14, 2026 | Over 1 million posts, times localized across 118 countries | Audience local time | Mon 3 PM to 9 PM; Tue 3 PM to 7 PM; Wed 5 PM; Thu 4 PM |
| Later | Apr 21, 2026 | Over 6 million feed posts, January to October 2024 | Audience local time | 3 AM to 6 AM on most days; Mon 5 AM on top |
| Metricool | Jun 18, 2026 | 24,364,803 posts from 375,118 accounts | Not stated | 6 PM to 9 PM every day |
| Sociality.io | Oct 2, 2026 | 335,210 brand posts from 2,658 accounts, 12 months ending Jul 31, 2026 | Each account’s set zone, 59% UTC | 8 PM to midnight; Sun 10 PM to midnight on top |
Sprout Social Puts the Peak on Weekday Afternoons
Sprout Social’s 2026 analysis covers nearly 2 billion engagements across about 307,000 social profiles. For Instagram, every named window falls between Monday and Thursday. Wednesday has the widest window, 12 PM to 9 PM, plus a spike at 11 PM. But Friday shows no clear peak, and weekends rank as the weakest days.
For an Indian brand, that means lunch and post-lunch hours on most weekdays. In IST, the 12 PM to 4 PM stretch appears on four days.
Buffer Favors Evenings and One Thursday Morning
Buffer’s study covers 9.6 million Instagram posts sent through its tool over two years, starting January 2024. It ranks slots by median engagement rate. The top three slots are Thursday 9 AM, Wednesday 12 PM and Wednesday 6 PM. Wednesday is the best day overall, while Friday and Saturday are the weakest.
Also, Buffer’s weekend peaks sit late in the day, at 8 PM to 10 PM. So an Indian account that posts on weekends should test 8 PM to 10 PM IST first.
Hootsuite Shows Late Afternoon Peaks
Hootsuite analyzed over 1 million posts and localized the times across 118 countries. Most of its Instagram windows fall between 3 PM and 9 PM. Monday 3 PM to 9 PM and Tuesday 3 PM to 7 PM are its widest windows. It also lists Tuesday 5 AM to 8 AM as an early option.
In addition, Hootsuite publishes a set of fixed time zone rows. There is no IST row, though. That is why we converted its UTC and Gulf rows in the NRI section.
Later’s 5 AM Result Is the Outlier
Later looked at over 6 million feed posts published between January and October 2024. Its best hours sit between 3 AM and 6 AM, with Monday 5 AM on top. For Reels, the best hour in its sample of over 975,000 videos was 12 AM on Monday.
We kept Later in our grid. Still, its early slots overlap another study only once, on Tuesday at 5 AM. That is why we treat 5 AM IST as a test slot for night-owl niches only.
Metricool and Sociality Make the Evening Case
Metricool’s 2026 Instagram study covers 24,364,803 posts from 375,118 accounts. Its best windows run 6 PM to 9 PM every day, and 8 PM to 9 PM is the busiest hour. However, the study does not state which clock it uses. For that reason, we left it out of our hourly grid.
Sociality.io tracked 335,210 brand posts over 12 months ending July 31, 2026. Posts between 8 PM and midnight beat the account’s typical post 52.0% of the time. Sunday 10 PM to midnight was the best window, at 60.2%. But 59% of those accounts use UTC as their set zone.
For a UTC-set account, “8 PM” means 1:30 AM IST. That is why we read Sociality as a broad evening signal and kept it out of the grid too.
Our Consensus Grid of 168 Weekly Hours
We built our own grid to settle the disagreements. First, we split the week into 168 day-and-hour slots in IST. Next, we marked each slot that a study names as a best time. We used only the four studies that state a local clock. Finally, we counted the marks, so each slot scores between 0 and 4.
For a window like “2 PM to 4 PM”, we marked the 2 PM and 3 PM slots. A single time like “5 PM” marks one slot. In total, the four studies place 75 marks. Only 12 slots get two or more marks, and just two slots get three.
The heatmap shows a clear afternoon band early in the week. Tuesday 3 PM and Tuesday 5 PM are the only slots with three marks. In contrast, Thursday to Sunday never get more than one mark in any hour.
By hour, 5 PM IST collects the most marks, with 7. Next come 3 PM, 4 PM, 6 PM and 5 AM, with 6 each. However, five of the six 5 AM marks come from Later alone. Even so, the late afternoon band is the safer default for most Indian accounts.
By day, Tuesday leads with 17 marks, and Wednesday follows with 16. Monday has 13, while Saturday trails with 6. Also, weekends are the weakest days in the Sprout study, and Friday and Saturday rank lowest in Buffer’s data. Because of this, we rank weekend posts lower in our plan.
Our Day-by-Day Posting Plan in IST
We turned the grid into a plan for each day of the week. For each day, the first slot is the hour with the most marks. When several hours tie, we picked the one inside the busiest study window.
| Day | Post at (IST) | Why we picked it |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 7 PM | Buffer and Hootsuite each mark every hour between 6 PM and 9 PM |
| Tuesday | 5 PM | Sprout, Buffer and Hootsuite all mark it |
| Wednesday | 12 PM | Sprout and Buffer mark it; it is one of Buffer’s top three slots overall |
| Thursday | 9 AM | Buffer’s best slot of the whole week |
| Friday | 4 PM | Hootsuite’s only Friday window; Buffer adds 9 PM and 10 PM |
| Saturday | 9 PM | Buffer’s top Saturday hour; weakest day overall |
| Sunday | 9 PM | Buffer’s top Sunday hour, close to Sociality’s best window |
Thursday deserves a note. No hour on Thursday gets two marks, so we followed Buffer’s single best slot. But if your Insights show a quiet Thursday morning, move that post to 12 PM. Sprout marks 12 PM and 1 PM on Thursday.
Posting Times by Niche for Indian Brands
We matched the industry results from Sprout Social and Hootsuite to common Indian business types. Where the two studies overlap, we picked the overlap. Where they do not, we listed the longer daytime window first and the other study’s window as the backup.
| Niche | Test first (IST) | Backup (IST) | Day to avoid | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Restaurants, cloud kitchens, packaged food | Wed 11 AM to 2 PM | Mon or Tue 11 AM to 3 PM | Weekends | Overlap of the two studies |
| Travel, hotels, tour operators | Wed 11 AM to 3 PM | Mon or Tue 11 AM to 3 PM | Weekends | Overlap of the two studies |
| Retail, fashion, D2C brands | Thu 11 AM to 5 PM | Fri 5 PM to 9 PM | Weekends | No overlap; Sprout first, Hootsuite backup |
| Coaching, schools, edtech | Wed 11 AM to 7 PM | Tue 7 PM to 9 PM | Sunday | Sprout only |
| Clinics, hospitals, wellness | Mon 1 PM to 3 PM | Thu 11 AM | Weekends | Overlap of the two studies |
| Banks, NBFCs, fintech | Fri 11 AM to 4 PM | Tue 9 AM to 11 AM | Weekends | No overlap; Hootsuite first, Sprout backup |
| SaaS, IT services, tech | Tue 11 AM to 4 PM | Wed or Thu 11 AM to 3 PM | Weekends | Sprout only |
| Media, entertainment, creators | Fri 2 PM to 4 PM | Wed 5 PM or Sun 1 PM | None named | Hootsuite only |
| NGOs and foundations | Wed 11 AM to 1 PM | Thu 2 PM to 4 PM | Weekends | Overlap of the two studies |
| Agencies and B2B services | Mon 9 AM to 11 AM | Fri 8 AM to 10 AM | None named | Hootsuite only |
Food brands get the cleanest answer. The two studies meet at late morning and lunch on Wednesday, so a cloud kitchen can post its lunch menu at 11:30 AM. If you hire outside help, compare the firms in our list of food and beverage marketing agencies.
Clinics and wellness brands also get a clear overlap on Monday afternoon. However, Hootsuite adds a Saturday 8 AM to 11 AM window for healthcare that Sprout does not show. A dietitian can still test one Saturday morning post. For caption ideas, see our nutrition tips Instagram captions and our guide to digital marketing for nutritionists.
Retail is the messiest row. Sprout favors Thursday daytime, while Hootsuite favors Friday evening and Monday morning. That is why D2C brands should run the timing test from the Insights section on both. Our mobile commerce statistics and our list of beauty marketing agencies add context for beauty and fashion sellers.
Professional services follow the agency and B2B row. For example, a law firm in Delhi can post at 10 AM on Monday. A clear profile bio matters too, and our Instagram bio ideas for lawyers show how to write one.
Convert Times for NRI and Overseas Followers
Conversion matters once your followers live outside India. For instance, a Jaipur jewelry brand with many US buyers needs US evening hours. Those fall in the early Indian morning. The table gives the offset to add to the follower’s local time.
| Where followers live | Zone now | Add this to get IST | Next change |
|---|---|---|---|
| US East Coast, Toronto | EST, UTC−5 | +10:30 | Becomes +9:30 on March 14, 2027 |
| US West Coast | PST, UTC−8 | +13:30 | Becomes +12:30 on March 14, 2027 |
| United Kingdom | GMT, UTC+0 | +5:30 | Becomes +4:30 on March 28, 2027 |
| UAE, Oman | GST, UTC+4 | +1:30 | No daylight saving |
| Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait | AST, UTC+3 | +2:30 | No daylight saving |
| Singapore, Malaysia | UTC+8 | −2:30 | No daylight saving |
| Sydney, Melbourne | AEDT, UTC+11 | −5:30 | Becomes −4:30 on April 4, 2027 |
Next, we converted Buffer’s three best slots for overseas followers. Each cell shows the IST time at which you would schedule the post.
| Buffer slot (follower’s time) | US East, winter | UK, winter | UAE | Sydney, summer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Thursday 9 AM | Thu 7:30 PM IST | Thu 2:30 PM IST | Thu 10:30 AM IST | Thu 3:30 AM IST |
| Wednesday 12 PM | Wed 10:30 PM IST | Wed 5:30 PM IST | Wed 1:30 PM IST | Wed 6:30 AM IST |
| Wednesday 6 PM | Thu 4:30 AM IST | Wed 11:30 PM IST | Wed 7:30 PM IST | Wed 12:30 PM IST |
The UAE row is the friendliest for Indian teams. Every slot lands in normal working hours. On the other hand, the US East Coast slots land at night, so schedule them in advance.
Convert Hootsuite’s Fixed-Zone Rows
Hootsuite lists best times for several fixed zones. We added the offsets to each row. The result shows when a mixed global audience is most active in IST.
| Hootsuite zone and window | Same window in IST |
|---|---|
| UTC, Monday 2 PM to 7 PM | Monday 7:30 PM to 12:30 AM |
| UTC, Tuesday 4 PM to 7 PM | Tuesday 9:30 PM to 12:30 AM |
| UTC, Thursday 11 AM to 4 PM | Thursday 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM |
| Arabia Standard Time, Thursday 2 PM to 4 PM | Thursday 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM |
| Central European Time, Thursday 4 PM to 6 PM | Thursday 8:30 PM to 10:30 PM |
| Eastern Standard Time, Saturday 11 AM | Saturday 9:30 PM |
| Pacific Standard Time, Saturday 9 AM | Saturday 10:30 PM |
So Thursday evening IST is the best shared window for a brand with Gulf, Europe and India followers. It also matches the evening band in Metricool’s data.
Find Your Own Best Time in Instagram Insights
Your own followers beat any study. Instagram shows when they are online once you use a professional account. Follow these steps to read it.
- Switch your profile to a creator or business account in the app settings.
- Open your professional dashboard and go to your account insights.
- Tap your total followers and scroll to the most active times chart.
- Toggle between hours and days, and note the two busiest hours on your three busiest days.
- Compare those hours with our day plan, and keep any slot that appears in both.
Note the follower floor. Follower activity data is not available for accounts with fewer than 100 followers. Also, the hourly follower data in Meta’s API covers only the last 30 days. Until it passes 100 followers, a new account should follow our plan.
Run a Four-Week Timing Test
Next, pick two slots for the same day. Take one from our plan and one from your Insights. Then post similar content in each slot for four weeks. We suggest at least eight posts per slot before you decide, because one viral post can skew a small sample.
Keep the format fixed during the test. For example, compare a carousel against a carousel. A Reel against a photo mixes two changes at once, so the result tells you little about the hour.
Score Each Slot by Engagement Rate
Buffer ranks slots by engagement rate per follower. The formula adds likes, comments, shares and saves, divides by followers and multiplies by 100. We use the same formula for slot tests.
For example, take a post with 420 likes, 35 comments, 20 shares and 75 saves. The account has 12,000 followers. The total is 550 interactions, and 550 divided by 12,000 is 4.58%. Average that figure across each slot, and keep the slot with the higher average.
Reels, Carousels and Stories Timing in IST
Formats have less data than feed posts. Buffer did not split its numbers by format, so its Reels advice of 6 PM to 11 PM is general guidance. In Later’s Reels sample, 12 AM was the best hour. Metricool’s earlier short-form study also gave 12 AM the most views, at 25,159 views per Reel.
Sociality’s best Reels window was Sunday 8 PM to midnight. There, 58.9% of Reels beat the account’s typical Reel. As a result, all four sources lean late, and Indian Reels should test 9 PM to 12 AM IST first. Dance and tutorial creators can pair that slot with our Instagram captions for dance tutorials.
For carousels, Buffer’s best slots match its overall top three: Wednesday 12 PM, Wednesday 6 PM and Thursday 9 AM. Metricool adds Sunday 7 PM to 9 PM. For Stories, Metricool marks 11 AM to 2 PM, and Buffer’s pace is one to two Stories a day.
Our Starting Schedule for a New Indian Account
If we were starting an Indian account today, we would post four feed posts a week. We would use Monday 7 PM, Tuesday 5 PM, Wednesday 12 PM and Sunday 9 PM. Then we would add two Reels at 9:30 PM on Wednesday and Sunday.
After four weeks, we would compare engagement rates by slot. Any slot that trails the account average by 20% or more gets swapped for the next hour in our grid. Then we would repeat the test each quarter.

Quick Answers on Instagram Timing in India
What is the best time to post on Instagram in India?
Tuesday between 3 PM and 6 PM IST is the best time in our grid. Three of four studies mark Tuesday 3 PM and 5 PM. For other days, test 6 PM to 9 PM on Monday and 12 PM on Wednesday.
Is morning or evening better for Instagram posts in India?
Late afternoon and evening win in most studies. In our grid, the 3 PM to 9 PM IST band holds 34 of the 75 marks. Mornings show up mainly in Later’s 3 AM to 6 AM result and a few single slots, such as Buffer’s Thursday 9 AM.
Which day gets the most Instagram engagement in India?
Tuesday leads our grid with 17 marks, and Wednesday is close with 16. Wednesday is also the best day overall in Buffer’s data. Saturday ranks last with 6 marks.
Does posting time still matter on Instagram?
Yes, but the gap is modest. In the Sociality data, evening posts beat their account’s typical post 52.0% of the time, against 48.7% for 9 AM to 5 PM. Timing gives a small edge on top of the post itself.
What time should I post for NRI followers in the US?
For US East Coast followers, add 10 hours 30 minutes to their local time during winter. For instance, Buffer’s Thursday 9 AM slot becomes Thursday 7:30 PM IST. From March 14, 2027, add 9 hours 30 minutes instead.
Should I post at the same time every day?
No. The best hour changes by day in every study we read. For example, Buffer’s best Monday hour is 7 PM, but its best Thursday hour is 9 AM. So set a different slot for each day in your scheduler.
