Tire Shop Benchmarks, Market Size and Marketing Statistics

5/5 - (6 votes)

US tire dealers will book about $41.5 billion in 2026 from roughly 28,800 businesses, while consumer replacement tire shipments slip 1.6% to 255.4 million units. Fewer tires are moving, older cars keep coming in, and a Google Ads lead for a tire shop still costs a third of the all industry average.

I pulled figures from USTMA, IBISWorld, Modern Tire Dealer, Monro filings, the Auto Care Association, LocaliQ, WordStream and Invoca, then calculated what they mean for a single store: revenue per business, tires per vehicle, cost per lead against ticket size and the dollar value of a missed call.

Key Findings From My Analysis

  • The average US tire dealer business brings in about $1.44 million a year ($41.5 billion across 28,799 businesses).
  • US drivers buy 0.84 replacement tires per vehicle a year, or a full set of four about every 4.7 years.
  • A tire dealer Google Ads lead costs $22.65, which buys 44 leads per $1,000 against 15 at the all industry rate.
  • Each tire dealer lead costs about 3.8% of a $600 set of four tires.
  • A shop missing 42% of 100 monthly calls leaves about $100,800 a year of tire sales on the table if one in three missed callers would buy a set.

Total336.3330.3−1.8%
Consumer replacement tires make up 77% of all US shipments.
  • USTMA cut its 2026 forecast by 8.6 million units in July, with declines across all replacement categories, per European Rubber Journal.
  • Consumer replacement tires (passenger plus light truck) total 255.4 million units, 77% of all 2026 shipments.
  • Tire dealer revenue reaches $41.5 billion in 2026 across 28,799 businesses, per IBISWorld.
  • The number of tire dealer businesses has shrunk 1.6% a year since 2021, which works out to about 2,400 fewer businesses in five years.
  • The total US tire market sits near $56 billion in 2025 and heads toward $64 billion by 2030, per Mordor Intelligence data cited by Promodo.

Vehicle and Demand Statistics

  • The average US light vehicle hit a record 12.9 years old in 2026, per the Auto Care Association via Autosphere.
  • The US auto care aftermarket is projected at $599.7 billion in 2026, up 5.4%.
  • About 303 million vehicles run on US roads, served by 269,548 service outlets, per the Auto Care Association.
  • General repair shops average $275 per visit against $261 at dealerships, and dealership share of service visits fell from 33% to 29%, per Cox Automotive data cited by Web Tonic.
  • 16% of consumers used an AI tool during their last car service search.

My math: 255.4 million replacement tires across 303 million vehicles equals 0.84 tires per vehicle per year. A shop with 5,000 vehicles in its customer file should expect about 4,200 tire sales a year from that base if it captures every replacement.

Data from Monro fiscal 2026 results. Sales per location work out to about $996,000. A 35% gross margin shrinking to 1.7% at the operating line shows how much of each sale goes to rent, labor and overhead.

  • Tariffs pushed some tire lines up 35% and others 15% to 20%; one set of four 40,000 mile tires rose from $450 to $600, per Tire Review.
  • Search demand for tires rises in May through July and peaks September through November.

  • Automotive cost per click rose 3.3% in 2026, against 12.88% for all industries, per Web Tonic.
  • Only 58% of inbound automotive calls reach a live person, per Invoca 2026.

My math: $1,000 of Google Ads buys about 44 tire dealer leads at $22.65 each, three times the 15 leads the same budget buys at the all industry rate. Against a $600 set of four tires, each lead costs 3.8% of one sale.

Monthly Google Ads Budget vs Expected Tire Sales (My Calculation)

Monthly BudgetLeads at $22.65Sets Sold at 40% Close*Tire Revenue at $600 a SetAd Cost per Sale
$500229$5,298$56.62

*The 40% lead to sale rate is my assumption for a phone or form lead asking for a tire quote. Swap in your own close rate; the ad cost per sale equals cost per lead divided by close rate.
