Google has recently filed a patent to handle
spam when finding information collected from a source. Google basically
extracts data from other sources like superpages, yelp.com, yellowpages.com,
whitepages.com, manta.com etc.while ranking web pages with respect to local
queries or business related queries. Google maps are returned whenever any
business related local query is entered. Information presented on Google maps
are collected from a variety of sources besides what is entered by the business
itself. This verification helps Google to determine the genuineness of a
business and its place of business

The patent named
“Determining Spam in Information Collected From a Source” helps to compare data collected from a variety of sources to check for spam. Some
business owners try to manipulate their local business results by adding words
such as “cheap”, “discount”, “best” etc. in the
main title of the business which correctly identifies the business name. Now,
this techniques would not help any more to rank their business higher up on the
search results. Proper business names must be entered under the main name of
the business to remain safe from any kind of Google penalty that may be applied
if Google identifies that your business is using spammy ways to manipulate its
search results.
