Google has launched a new local ranking algorithm and the SEO community has named this update the “Pigeon” update. This algorithm powers the local search results both on the Google Maps and the main search results. This update was noticed after many webmasters witnessed changes in their local search rankings. Pigeon update is not a spam filtering algorithm but rather it tends to deliver better quality search results.

Very quickly this update has started to roll out for both English and non-English search queries. Still, no information from Google has been provided in this regard. Waiting to see when will Google finally reveal about this major local update and interestingly what name it gives to the update?
